Listening to the World

Spectrum is an Architectural Instrument which can catch and transform sounds from our surrounding. Listening to sound waves and bringing them into architecture.

The process was developed using Fourier series to decompose a sound into a bunch of sine waves and working with recorded sounds through REW (Room EQ Wizard) and Grasshopper Simulations. Through the understanding of surface amplified deformation, it was possible to develop a second flexible structure which changes depending on the sound waves which are coming inside the architectural instrument. Therefore, the floor and the walls of this second structure will change from time to time, thanks to the possibility to directly visualize sound spectrums.
